Apologies and Good Content

If you’re new, hello! We’ve had a few folks come over in the last couple of weeks so for this edition I thought I’d cover a few things rather than one topic starting with an apology.

On Sunday morning, my mate Dave sent me this.

My blood ran cold. The episode had automatically posted at 6am as it always does, I’d uploaded it days before and thought it was fine. It turned out that in working on that episode I’d made some changes to the volume levels for myself and Gajan which sounded fine in Audacity which I use to edit the podcast, but which was clipping on the exported file resulting in some distortion. I was mortified. I’d really enjoyed talking to Gajan and like he’d said on the show, when you make something you want the folks consuming it and collaborating with you to have a great experience and for the product to be of high quality.

It wasn’t terrible, but I knew it should be better. It has since refreshed in all the feeds so apologies if your enjoyment was marred by the poor quality. For the future I’m now also listening back to more parts of the export so I can be confident that the quality is what I’m expecting throughout once the file is exported and compressed.

Good Content

I’ve watched a few things this week that I’ve really enjoyed and were worth sharing.

James Popsys has made a characteristically thoughtful video about photography and life which I enjoyed this week. I really like the way that James approaches his work. He’s not flashy, he’s honest and makes work about making work not work about how great he is. He’s also fond of limiting your gear options which appeals to me but the part of this I liked the most was how far ahead he’s having to think about the locations he wants to photograph.

If you’ve not yet listened then before you do, make sure you watch this fantastic film by Gajan and his team. He talks about it in the episode we recorded and it’s a great time. It’s so well made, I love it.

And lastly Daniel Milnor is back on YouTube which is great new for all of us. A previous guest of the show he’s always excellent value and his guidance for party etiquette is particularly good. Always wear a camera and spend as little time as possible looking at your phone!

Getting ready for the year ahead

When I started in March last year I wasn’t sure how many episodes I’d make, how many people would listen and the newsletter was yet to materialise. As it stands I have almost all the slots between now and the end of the first year and my plan is for the show to continue. To that end I’m heading to the London Photography show in March to try and catch some interesting talks and meet up with some potential guests.

If you’re going to be there, hit me up and we’ll see if we can grab a coffee or a pint :)

… One more Thing

I’m not up on the rumours so I don’t know if this was “wide-ly” reported, but Fuji have announced a new Instax Wide cameraLike the other Evo camera it's actually a digital camera that prints wide Instax prints. It looks super cool and has a fantastic crank action to print your image. I have a one camera rule which luckily for me doesn’t apply to instant cameras so who knows, if the price is right maybe it can join my other instant cameras later this year.
