Urth Magnetic Filters

In the annual sale frenzy I did see something I quite fancied in the form of the Urth magnetic filter set for my M10. I’ve bee interested in a polarizer and UV filter for a while. The ND filters would be a nice bonus in really bright conditions.

I popped out this lunchtime to try it out and see how they perform on my 5th gen Summicron 50. I shot all of these at F2 which is as fast as that lens goes.

My first instinct is that I can’t see an improvement in clarity, it’s not a particularly bright day though. I suspect they would cut down on glare as advertised and they seem very good quality. The only thing I have to decide is whether I like the warmer/ yellow colour they’re adding to my images. I only noticed it side-by-side - see gallery above. I’m going to have to think about how I feel about interfering with the characteristics of these lenses when so much care has gone into the way that they render the image when they’re made. I can’t imagine wanting to mess with the magic of the Elmarit F2.8 for example.
