During the pandemic I built myself a MiSTer console. It’s amazing and I recommend them to anyone willing to do the work to have the ultimate emulation experience at home. The DE-10 Nano is now widely available again and it’s an unreasonably versatile piece of kit which soon will emulate just about everything from the NES up to the N64. Insanity! For bonus points I put mine inside a Wii Mini case. I even got a friend to help me wire up the original power button. It’s rad. But …
Now there is this …
The Analogue Pocket is sooo convenient compared to the MiSTer, I can take it places with me for a start, computer emulators like the Amiga feature an on screen keyboard option which makes it easier to use without having to dig out a keyboard and mouse or find a USB hub in my case which I know I could solve with bluetooth or a mini hub but I have two wee boys running around and time is limited. I need to pick up and go. There is also a massive community around this thing with amazing update scripts that got and get ALL TEH THINGS for you. Oh and it makes getting screenshots of games a breeze!
This week I used it to introduce the kids to Speedball 2 and Bomberman 94 and they love them. The eldest is even pitching me pixel game ideas that use the perspective from Bomberman off the back of it and today said “some old games are better than the new ones”. YES! Yes they are! :D
Anyway, what I’m saying is get one and get a dock, you won’t regret it.
